The Way to Go website is leveraged by the Challenge School to help our community find families to carpool to/from school. It’s free and there is no obligation to participate. Schoolpool is a service of Way to Go, a federally funded program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG).
As a magnet school, the district does not provide transportation to/from the Challenge School. With that said, our families have chosen to charter a bus, to help.
Current Bus Route
We currently have one bus route that has two stops (Stop #1 -- Rolling Hills Elementary School 5756 S Biscay St, Aurora, CO 80015 and Stop #2 - Playground parking lot; Orchard & Joplin ACROSS Joplin from PC pool). If you are interested in getting on the waiting list for this bus route or to learn more, please email busforchallenge@gmail.com.
DTC Bus Inquiry
Please find information below about a possible new bus route. It takes about two months to get a bus lined up for the year, so we will need to make a decision during the summer to be prepared for the 26-27 school year. Please read the information below and RSVP here.
1. A school bus has a maximum of 77 seats. The more children who sign up for the bus, the lower the cost will be.
2. Regardless of how many children ride, the daily cost of the bus is $903. If we end up with 66 children signing up for this route, the round-trip cost per day would be: 903 ÷ 66 = $13.70. If 30 children ride, then the daily round-trip cost would be: 903 ÷ 30 = $30.10.
(I did a quick calculation: if a child rides for a full month—20 school days—then 20 × $13.70 = $274. So the maximum monthly cost per child would be about $274.)
3. The current payment policy is: you pay for 2 months at a time, and once you sign up, it is considered a commitment for the entire school year. You may withdraw midway, but the deposit will not be refundable. Signing up also assumes 5 days a week, round-trip rides. If a child has a club or does not take the bus on a given day, that day’s fee will not be refunded.
4. For this newly added route, it will mainly serve the DTC area. Therefore, we will likely have one or at most two stops. Each morning around 7:20, parents will drop off children at the stop, and the bus will depart for school. In the afternoon, around 3:40pm, the bus will bring the children back to the same stop for pickup. This avoids situations where some children would need to get on the bus as early as 7:00 and ride around for a long time, by centralizing pickups at one stop. According to current bus guidelines, the stop will most likely be located somewhere along West Orchard Road. We will know more about the stop when we hear back from school bus administrators. (around Orchard/Havana or Belleview and Havana areas).
5. If you are serious about signing up for the new school bus route after knowing these details, please kindly RSVP here, if we reach around 55 students, most likely we can make the new route happen, if we only get around 40 students, we will most likely not be able to move forward.
** Please note that the bus resources are not managed or connected to the Challenge School or the Challenge School PTCO 501 (c)(3) as an organization. The bus resource is managed by individual parents.
